It was this course, after a six year hiatus from graduate school, that plunged me back into the vast sea of technology. It was during this that I ascertained that I wanted to pursue an advanced degree in the field of educational technology after considering gifted education. I can't report that I had any gleaming philosophical revelations, rather, this course was well grounded in logistics and fact.
I researched and found the value and implications of BYOD. Even with fourteen student desktop computers already in my room, I've implemented it. With a very effective Acceptable Use Policy created during this course, it's been the means to move seamlessly from a 2:1 ratio to 1:1.
I learned that iPads are well worth their money, if only for their App Store. However, Chromebooks and Google Drive are gaining popularity and rival tablets in many ways.
While I'd dismissed Twitter as a teen trend to cyber-stalk celebrities, I now see it as an integral part of my personal learning network. My goal is to introduce it as a tool to unite our ten elementary schools as we blunder our way through a brand new Math and ELA curriculum next year.
Foremost, I learned that education can no longer be contained within the four walls of a classroom. 21st Century Skills are imperative for success in tomorrow's world and it is our duty as educators to use technology to lead our students along the path to success.
